Stroke is a medical emergency, but recognising the signs can help save a life. If you, or someone with you, is experiencing the signs or symptoms of a stroke, call 911 or your local emergency number immediately.

Quick – or FAST – action can improve the chances of survival and recovery. If you are experiencing the symptoms, do not drive – an ambulance will get you to the best hospital for stroke care, plus paramedics can provide interim medical attention.

Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in Canada, and the third leading cause of death. Nearly 14,000 Canadians die from stroke each year, with a new stroke occurring every 10 minutes. What is a stroke?

A stroke occurs when blood stops flowing to any part of your brain, damaging brain cells. The effects of a stroke depend on the part of the brain damaged and the amount of damage done.

Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer, and skin cancer rates are still rising despite a general fall in other cancer rates in recent years. As with breast cancer, self-checking is one of the easiest ways to identify potential skin cancers early.
